Anemone Wrist Warmers

I made these for a friend a couple of months ago. They were a fast, fun project, even with beads, the pattern being clear and easy. I procrastinated with the actual mailing of the gift, but now that she has received it, I get to blog about it.

A Baby Set

I knit this set of a baby sweater and hat for my cleaning lady's granddaughter. The hat pattern is Aviatrix Baby Hat. It is an excellent pattern, very quick to knit up and the short rows keep it interesting. The sweater pattern is Baby Boy 5 hour Sweater. I chose it because the purl ridges on the yoke went well with the ridges on the hat. To make them baby girlish, I embroidered some pink flowers (lazy daisy and french knot). It best thing about baby stuff is that these are so quick to make and so very cute.

Baby Surprise Jacket II : Pastels

Eid is just round the corner and I decided to knit some baby stuff as an Eid gift for BIL's baby boy. Baby Surprise Jacket (ravelry link) seemed to be the most ideal choice. I had knit one last year so it went faster and smoother this time. I decided to use all subdued tones. I used DK baby soft Bambino (a local acrylic brand) leftovers and 4mm needles.

The modifications I did were to turn the jacket inside out, so that instead of distinct stripes , I got blended colors. Secondly, I added a I-cord edging ( I just love the I-cord edging) to the jacket. All in all it turned out really well and it is better sized than my first BSJ.
I am a little rushed for time here, but if possible, I will try to knit white trousers to go with it, inshaAllah!

More Mittens

When I finished my Bronte's Mitts a few days ago, my son was rather taken with them. He took the pair to try on and I let him, thinking he will hand it over in a few minutes. He handed them back all right but those were all wet! It turned out, he was trying to block them, Lol. Well, I managed to dry them but he was still hovering around, so for the sake of my mitts' safety, I asked him if he would like a pair of his own. Affirmative. Now what goes for my son also has to go for his little sister and this brings me to this current FO.

I made these mitts for my daughter. This is a heavily modified version of Mouse Mittens. I left out the tail( lesser yarn for her to put in the mouth). I used yarn scrap for this project and it took one day to knit.
Next I have to make a pair of dinosaur mitts for my son. I will have to come up with a pattern of my own and I am thinking hard :) I have not shown my kids these ratty mitts yet as I want to finish the dino pair first and then give both the kids their mitts at the same time. Some time next week, inshallah!

A Hat For My Father

After making a sweater for my mother, I wanted to make something for my father as well. The one thing he regularly wears during the winters is a hat. He normally wears a traditional fabric hat common to our part of the world. I thought it would be a nice change for him to try a knitted hat. So with my hausband to help me pick a pattern, I searched Ravelry and we choose this pattern. The beret shape is quite similar to his current hat style and moss st give it a nice texture. The yarn I used is Red heart with wool in charcoal color. I made no modifications to the pattern.

I had DH model as my father does not like his picture taken. The dark color makes it hard to get the details in photos.

For Ammi

The February Lady Sweater that I had been knitting for my mother is finally done. And I gave it to her and she tried it on and it is a perfect fit...Yay. And it looks fabulous! My mom was quite happy with it. She loves the yarn which is LionBrand Wool-Ease in Rose Heather.

Modifications that I did to the original pattern:
1. I did the yoke in st st except for the initial border and 3 rows around the eyelet increase, which I did in garter st.
2. Full-length sleeves and sleeve shaping by decreasing sts at every 9th row.

Now I have to work on my crochet cardigan which is almost half done. Now that I have only two WIPs, I might cast on some more. Ideas are swimming around in my head, but nothing definite.
And another wonderful news, I won some malabrigo and addi circ needles in a contest at a friend's blog. I have never worked with this yarn nor the needles so I am pretty excited!

Baby Gift Done

The knitting for the baby gift was finally done today. I finished the jumpsuit before Eid. It is a Drops design ,which I think is a bit too large for the 6-month size. But still, the babies do grow and it will fit at some point of time.

Then I knit a hat to match the Baby Surprise Jacket. It is also a Drops design, simple in garter st. I finished it today.

So all the gift items put together look thus:

I should be giving this to the new mommy this week.

Afghan Squares Bag

I had made a couple of afghan squares last year with no particular project in mind. I might have considered an afghan but did not have enough yarn or commitment. These were just lying there in my knitting closet until I started thinking of gift ideas for Eid. That is when I thought of making them into a bag. I crocheted in round to make one-piece bottom, gussets and handle. Also added a button closure and lining.

I gave it to my 11-year old niece yesterday and she was very happy with it. This encourages me to work on my other ongoing gift project... yes for cousins' baby. I have finished the jumpsuit and started the hat. I will post them together when the hat is done.
