Steggie

When this pattern came out in Knitty last year, I knew it was just perfect for my dinosaur-crazy son. Even though he has somewhat grown out of his obsession with dinosaur, he was still deeply interested when I decided to knit it recently. He has been deeply involved in the color choices. And he was so keenly watching its progress, I decided to work solely on this sweater in order to finish it fast. Besides the his obvious favorite in spines, he is thrilled with the hood as well. And you know what would have completed the awesomeness....a tail! LOL.
As for the actual knitting, it was a quick, easy knit. No special modifications except adding a few inches to the body and sleeve lengths. The yarn is good, sturdy Pakistani acrylic frogged from an pre-blogging era sweater for my husband, which ended up being too small.

DinoMitts v 2.0

I had made a similar pair although in dull colors, a few months back. Now, I decided to write the pattern and test knit again. So, this pair was created. The colors this time round are quite bright and cheery. My son helped me with the yarns. Other than that, the spine of the spinosaurus is slightly different, so that my son tells me it is no longer a spinosaurus but rather resembles a T-Rex, LOL. May be some parent with greater knowledge about the dinosaurs can help with the identification :)

It's amazing what a different the right yarn and colormake to a project. My son is thrilled with this new pair.
Now, I'm going to have another test knitter knit these, before putting up the pattern in a week's time, inshaAllah.

DinoMitts

The mittens I promised my son are finally done. It took me about three days to finish the pair. My son wanted a T-rex. I tried my best with the first mitt but my son informs me that it is a spinosaurus.
For the second mitt, I decided on making a triceratops which is better recognizable.

I had thought of writing a pattern at first but then was unsure whether any one would be interested in one.

The great thing is that my son is very happy with his mitts (and so is my daughter with her pair of mouse mittens) and now that I have fullfilled my promise to the kids, I can carry on with my tangled yoke cardigan. I am at the first sleeve right now.
In keeping with the current theme, we plan to take the kids to the Museum of Natural History tomorrow, inshaAllah.
