Kaptaan Cabled Pullover

It took me eleven months to churn out the pattern for this pullover and get it test knitted. It is finally up for sale at my ravelry store. I had a great set of test knitter for this one too and you can also see their FOs at the store. Kaptaan is the Urdu word for captain, which is what my cricket-crazy son aspires to be one day.
 This raglan pullover is knit in rounds from bottom up till the armholes, then the front and back are worked separately. The sleeves are done the same way.

Yarn weight:  Aran / 10 ply (8 wpi)

Gauge: 20 stitches and 36 rows = 4 inches in cable pattern with 5 mm needles

Needle size:US 6 - 4.0 mm, US 8 - 5.0 mm

Yardage: 475 - 1300 yards (434 - 1189 m)

Sizes available: 2 (4, 6, 8, 10, 12) years

Finished Measurements:
Chest: 26 (28, 30, 32, 34, 36) inches.
Length: 16 (18, 20, 22, 24, 26) inches.
Sleeve length (to underarm): 9 (11, 12, 13, 14, 15.5) inches.

Swish Pleated Skirt

Thus named, I finally wrote the pattern for the skirt modified from a vintage design and had it test knitted. It has gone up for sale at my ravelry store.

Swish Pleated Skirt is knit in rounds from bottom up in two colors.

Yarn weight:  Aran / 10 ply (8 wpi)

Gauge:  8 stitches and 12 rows = 2 inches in st st on 5 mm needles

Needle size: US 8 - 5.0 mm

Yardage: Approx 500(600, 650, 700, 750, 800, 900) yards MC(main color) and 150 (200, 250, 300, 350, 400, 450) yards CC (contrasting color).

Sizes available: 2 (4, 6, 8, 10, 12, 14) years.

Finished measurements:
Hip: 22 (23.25, 25.5, 28.25, 29.25, 30.75, 32.25) inches.
Length: (easily modifiable)14 (16, 18, 20, 22, 24, 26)inches.
Pattern Difficulty: advance beginner. Requires knowledge of knitting in round, slip st, k2tog, SKP, yo and I-cord.

Sunburst Cardigan

 So, it has been test knit and put up for sale at my ravelry store. It is the adult version of my earlier Sunburst Coat. I had a great set of test knitter for this one too and you can also see their FOs at the store.

Gauge:  15.5 stitches and 24 rows = 4 inches in st st on 5 mm needles

Needle size:US 6 - 4.0 mm, US 8 - 5.0 mm

Yardage: 1000 - 1800 yards (914 - 1646 m)

Sizes available: 34(36, 38, 40, 42, 44, 46, 48, 50, 52, 54, 56) inches

Sunburst Strikes Again

This time around, it is in grown up size (for me) and is a bit cropped and sans the collar. The fit is just right and I am very happy with it. Yarn is garden variety Pakistani yarn, good acrylic but acrylic nonetheless. So, I am hoping this pattern will be even more flattering in nicer yarns.

Now I am hoping the tweak out the pattern and proceed to the test knit phase within a few days, inshaAllah. In case anyone is interested, I will be putting it up for test knit at the Free Pattern Testers group at ravelry.
Also I am open to suggestions regarding the name. It is an adult version of the Sunburst Coat and I want to come with a name that is distinct yet related to the original.

Tutu Pullover is Up

After test knitting, the Tutu pullover is finally up for sale at my ravelry store. You can also find the purchase link on blog's side bar, though it might not be needed any longer. The reason coming up in the next post :)
This seamless pullover is knit in rounds from top down.

Yarn weight:  Aran / 10 ply (8 wpi). 

Yardage: Two colors in approximately 400-850 yds of MC and 180-400 yds of CC.

Gauge: 17 stitches and 24 rows = 4 inches in st st.

Needle size:   US 7 - 4.5 mm, US 6 - 4.0 mm.

Sizes available: 2 (4, 6, 8, 10, 12) years.

 Pattern Difficulty: easy-intermediate. Requires some knowledge of knitting in rounds, short rows and M1 increases.
Finished measurements:
Chest: 24 (26, 28, 30, 32, 34) inches.
Length: 16 (18, 21, 23, 25.5, 27.5)inches.
Armhole depth: 5 (5.5, 6, 6.5, 7, 7.5) inches.

Laddu Pullover

Thus named is the design for the cotton pullover I made for my son a while back. It goes up for sale at my ravelry store today. Non-ravelry people can find the purchase link below. After being test knitted in all the sizes (2,4,6,8,and 10 years) by some wonderful testers, the pattern for the little summer top is now up for sale at my ravelry store. The credit for the name goes to a ravelry friend.

Demise Of A WIP

NOTE: This post is not so serious or tragic as the name might imply.

How many times does it happen that in our dreams we get an idea, which seems like such a brilliant one, solution to all the evils facing us, nothing short of a Nobel prize-worthy discovery. Then we wake up and find it was all mumbo-jumbo or something really silly at best.
I think the same phenomenon occurred to me last night. However, I was not sleeping. Rather, I was trying to come up with a brilliant design in the wee hours of the night.
I had a skein of Noro Kureyon and I thought I could come up with a pair of good fingerless gloves. So, I gave it some thought and started knitting. It seemed so awesome at the time and I could not go to sleep until I had finished the first glove. So, I did just that, and it still looked very well, though my vision was a bit blurry by then as it was already Fijr (Time before dawn). That is when I hit the bed after saying my prayers.
Now, when I woke up a little later in the morning and showed it to the husband, he immediately squashed my enthusiasm, saying it was quite horrendous and came close to my second worst knitting disaster after the kitchen set I had knit a while back. ( My husband hates that dishcloth and we have already thrown out the scrubbie-required a lot of elbow grease).
Further explanation from him added insult to injury when he said he liked the yarn but the pattern was all wrong. He further suggested I knit "some bag" with it.
So discouraged, I frogged the glove and have started a bag already. But, I did take a picture before frogging. Maybe, some day, I will look back and agree that it is horrible..

A Little Dress

I finished this dress for my daughter yesterday. I managed to get a picture today while there was a little lull in the rain. My daughter is so used to getting her picture taken now in the various FOs, that she knows where, how and when to pose, by herself, LOL. Even when I was sewing on buttons and this was not exactly done, she came up to me and said in anticipation, "Amma, taffeer...?!?" ("Mom, picture...?!?").
Regarding the project, the yarn was Schoppel-wolle Turandot (as I mentioned in an earlier post) approx 320 meters, needle size was 4.5mm and 5mm crochet hook for the edging. The pattern is my own. I have jotted it down while knitting but have to put it together a bit. And I don't feel like doing it right now, maybe in a few days, inshaAllah!

DinoMitts v 2.0

I had made a similar pair although in dull colors, a few months back. Now, I decided to write the pattern and test knit again. So, this pair was created. The colors this time round are quite bright and cheery. My son helped me with the yarns. Other than that, the spine of the spinosaurus is slightly different, so that my son tells me it is no longer a spinosaurus but rather resembles a T-Rex, LOL. May be some parent with greater knowledge about the dinosaurs can help with the identification :)

It's amazing what a different the right yarn and colormake to a project. My son is thrilled with this new pair.

Now, I'm going to have another test knitter knit these, before putting up the pattern in a week's time, inshaAllah.

Bounce Cardigan

I finally finished the cardigan I was working on, last night. This is my own pattern, and even though I say it myself, I really love the way it has turned out.

As, you can see, even rain or dying camera batterries could not deter me from taking pictures!

I have written the pattern for 5 sizes, 2, 4, 6 ,8 and 10 years. This project was the smallest size. After getting the test knitting done for the other sizes, I hope to put the pattern for sale in my ravelry store by the middle of next month, inshaAllah.
Regarding the name, this was DH's idea. He originally suggested "Baby Bounce" (whatever it might mean!) but I modified it to Bounce, baby being a tad bit inappropriate for the larger sizes.

Design In Progress

These past few days, I have been almost exclusively working on a cardigan for my daughter. I am working on a design of my own. I have worked out various sizes for this pattern and hope to put it up for sale at my ravelry store, inshaAllah. Finished the body today and will be starting the sleeves next.

It is not looking much right now but I think it will turn out rather cute when complete.
