Petite Pineapples

As things continue to heat up here in Islamabad, my apathy towards my cardigan-in-progress persists. My creative urges are finding new, weather-friendly avenues like handlettering and art. ( You can find my beginner's attempts at handlettering on my instagram account). Yarnwise, I decided to switch to thread and crochet a new doily for my dresser. The last one was made about four year ago and has been out of use for a while.

The pattern was straight forward enough, till the edging. The edging isn't charted. And trying to work through rows of instruction, with a toddler tugging at my shirt and another child jumping on the sofa, and someone else wanting a response from me, every other minute, was hard. Very hard indeed. My eyes and brain nearly gave out by the end of it.
In the end, it turned out just the right size and looks good as well.
Surprisingly, the younger girls had no interest in the fare now on display on the dreser, unlike the last time, when my oldest daughter was  very keen on them. Perhaps because they already had access, however reluctant it might have been, to these things when they were stored in the cabinet. As for my oldest, she arranged the dresser this time around and half the stuff on it is hers anyway.

Spring-inspired Embroidery

Recently, I was bitten by the embroidery bug and embroidered this for my older daughter's dress.

It was so much fun and I had a hard time putting it down. I got it done in two days, and clearly I had not had enough, because I started a similar one for my toddler. That too was done in two days. Now, all that is left is the sewing of the dress ( I finished sewing the first dress). Sadly, it has been put on hold by a respiratory tract infection that I have contracted. Can not wait to be fever free and resume the sewing.

New Fridge Handle Cover

Hoping the improve on my previous fridge handle cover, I made a new one. This one is secured in ties instead of the buttons which were on the last one. This prevents the cover from sliding down the handle.

It was a quick a simple project. First I crocheted a background piece to go around the handle, in dark green. Then I made some crochet roses ( There are many free patterns out there) and sewed then onto the background. Then I made a few leaves in different shades of green and incorporated them along the length of a chain stem. This stem serves to tie up the cover with very nice results.

Spartan Pullover

I finished the spartan pullover yesterday. I used thinner yarn than was called for in the pattern. Consequently I had to adjust to my different gauge. The details can be seen at my ravelry project page. It was a simple and enjoyable knit more so as it turned out perfect. DH is well pleased with it.

In a quick little project, I made this pair of crochet flower clips for my daughter last night. I love this stage when kids are thrilled to have things made for them by their mommy. I wonder how long this lasts.

Floral Slippers

Changing weather and my cold feet prompted a quick project_ a pair of slippers. I designed them myself, getting the right fit on the second attempt. The flower is worked in intarsia though I think duplicate st could have worked as well.
The yarn is the left over from spiderman afghan and needle size 4 mm. These turned out to be a great, snug fit and make my feet warm and happy.

I'm back

I'm back after a break of about two months. I was not completely of the scene as I quite regulary visited ravelry and other sites but did not take on any major projects ( a child's sweater does not count as major, right) and concetrated on my household and studies. Now I have a small respite of few days, then I may have to study a little more, but I am going to catch up on things right now. Thank you to my readers who have hung around (I wonder how many of you are out there!!).

My comeback coincides with the arrival of spring so here I present to you a few colors and flowers of spring from our terrace.
This first one to blossom is jasmine which flowered in february when the days were still a bit cold.
I don't the names of these but do love the colors.
And the latest arrival was this pink rose which flowered just today on our littlest rosebush.
